Practices Week of 8/8 - 8/11

8/8/2022 11:01 am

Hi everyone,

It is hard to believe, but it is time to really kick things off! This week we have a few practices with specific groups and I want to make sure everyone knows what to bring, where to go, etc.

Monday 8/8 - Thursday 8/11 6-9 PM - DRUMLINE AND GUARD

Tuesday 8/9 - Thursday 8/11 10AM - 12PM - BRASS/WW SECTION LEADERS/SQUAD LEADERS (Perc/Guard leadership come Tuesday AM)

Thursday 8/11 10AM - 12PM - NEW BRASS/WOODWIND MEMBERS (no percussion - no guard) New brass/woodwind members and section/squad leaders will meet at the same time!

Where do I go?
Enter at door 24A (the one by the trailers) . . . the door near the portables will also be open. Once you have come through the double doors, head to the band room (first room on the right).

What should I bring?
For this week, percussion and guard should plan on the possibility of being outside at some point. Front Ensemble will likely stay indoors as we continue setup. You should refer to this document to get an idea of what to bring. Your instructors will have more information.

For new brass/woodwind members, you should bring your instrument (see below) and an insulated water bottle. We will be inside on 8/11 for our practice time.

I play trombone. What do I do?
We will issue you a marching baritone the first day you come to a practice. You don't need to bring an instrument.

I play bass clarinet and don't have an instrument. What do I do?
Bring some reeds. We will issue you a bass clarinet. If you have a bass clarinet, bring it!

I play tuba. What do I do?
IF you have a mouthpiece, bring it. If not, no biggie. We will get you hooked up with a sousaphone when we see you. I'm still working on take-home instruments for you. More on that later.

I don't play any of those. What do I do?
Bring your instrument! Flutes, Clarinets, Saxophones, Trumpets . . . you should play what you normally play in class.

You left off mellophones . . .
Sure did. If you have a mellophone, bring it. Otherwise we will get you one when you arrive.

I have some covid symptoms, should I come anyway?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Do not come to school if you have any covid symptoms. We will get you caught up.

Should I bring music?
I will have music for you when you get to practice - make sure you have a binder and page protectors so you can easily put your music in the folder.

The goal for percussion this week is to memorize movement 1. The goal for the color guard is to start learning drill and work for movement 1.

New brass/woodwinds, our goal is to get an idea of what to expect for camp and to play through some music!

Also, if you have not done so, please go through the steps of adding the UDB app to your phone. Instructions are linked. Also, you might get a sneak peek at something if you go in there.

Lastly, here's the doc with every single important link we have so far.

If you are a returning brass/woodwind player, I will see you next week!
