Band Director

 

Drew Ross

 

Mr. Drew Ross has served as Director of Bands at Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, Virginia since 2015. He received his Bachelor of Music in Education from George Mason University and holds a Master of Music degree in Instrumental Conducting from James Madison University. 

 

At Great Bridge High School, Mr. Ross teaches 9th Grade Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, the Jazz Ensemble, and the Marching Wildcats. He also serves on a number of committees including the National Honor Society Selection Committee, the GBHS Scholarship Committee and is a co-sponsor of the school's Tri-M Music Honor Society. During the 2022-23 academic year, Mr. Ross was awarded Great Bridge High School's "Teacher of the Year" honor by his fellow faculty members. 

 

Prior to joining the faculty at Great Bridge High School, Mr. Ross served as a Band Director at Chantilly High School in Fairfax County from 2005 to 2013. During his tenure, the band program earned recognition at the state and national level, earning multiple Bands of America finalist placements, a Winter Guard International Percussion World Championship, and was a Virginia State Honor Band. In 2011, the Mighty Marching Chargers performed at the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Honolulu, Hawaii. 

 

An accomplished Trumpet player, Mr. Ross has experience performing with numerous community and professional ensembles, including the Virginia Wind Symphony, the Fairfax Wind Symphony, at the Sandler Center, the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, and with the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra. He was a 2001 semifinalist at the National Trumpet Competition, and his playing can be heard on numerous television series, including Storage Wars and Monster Garage. He is also an alumnus of the Tarheel Sun and Crossmen World Class Drum Corps, where he was a brass section leader and soloist for both ensembles. 

 

Mr. Ross holds numerous professional memberships and is an honorary member of the Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma service organizations. He is an active adjudicator and guest clinician for multiple state honor ensembles and performance assessments. Mr. Ross resides in Virginia Beach with his wife and son.
